Benjamin Robert Smith, age 85, passed away on Sunday January 7, 2018, at the High River Hospital after visits from his four sons. He was born in Vulcan, Alberta on January 15, 1932 to Edith (Huntley) and John Smith. Benjamin (Ben) was raised on a farm in the Berry water Community and the youngest of seven siblings. He farmed and pursued a variety of jobs including government road construction, flour mill, seed cleaning, parks, but spent most of his life doing what he loved which was construction and carpentry work. He was a faithful, hardworking, dedicated worker. He was a long-time member of the Elks in Vulcan. On April 6, 1957 he married Barbara Violet Samsone and loved her faithfully for over 60 years. Together they had four sons. They enjoyed visits to the mountains where Ben loved to hike in the beautiful outdoors. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be remembered for his quick smile, kind heart, storytelling, and his willingness to teach and share his passions.

Ben is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons; Gordon (Dorothy), Ronald (Lorraine), Wesley (Ester), and Mark; 10 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in Vulcan, Alberta at the Legion (240 Sinclair Road) on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM.

The Smith Family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the High River Hospital, particularly Dr. Warren and Nurses. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Benjamin Smiths name.
