It is with profound sadness that our amazing, sweet Mother, Oma, Great Oma, Sister, Sister in Law, Auntie, Cousin, and beloved Friend to so many, passed away on February 4, 2018. Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Ken (Anita), Ed (Laurie) Allan and Marilyn as well as her grandchildren Joshua, Jarrod (Alyssa), Kristin (Cory), Katrina, Justin, Amanda, Aaron, Andrea (Matt) and great grandchildren Jack, Ethan, Twila and Jordan. Also mourning the loss of Mary are her siblings Willy (Peter) Dyksterhuis, Marina Van Oosten, Francine (Panc) VanVeen, Arnout (Stacy) Steenhart, Mike (Sheena) Steenhart, Jack Steenhart, Cathy (Bryan) Shepperd and various nieces and nephews both in Canada and abroad.

Mary was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Gerald, her oldest son John (Carol), her beloved grandson Travis and her parents, Jacobus and Maria Steenhart.

Mary was born in Cadzand,August 20, 1933 in the Netherlands in the province of Zeeland. A few years after Hollands liberation Mary, 17 years old at the time, immigrated to Canada with her family and settled in the Taber, AB area. About a year later Mary met the love of her life, Gerry. They married February 21, 1953 and moved to Calgary. They had 5 children (4 boys and a girl), 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

All who knew Mary will miss her incredibly generous, kind and loving spirit, profound dedication and love for her family, and her unbending Christian faith. Mary has gone home to be with her Heavenly Father whom she served, faithfully, for her entire adult life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes are gratefully accepted by Samaritan’s Purse at: “samaritanspurse.ca.”

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at Choice Memorial (105-4715 13th Street NE) on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Memorial Service will be held at Calgary Community Reformed Church (1638 – 30th Avenue SW) on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
