NEWFIELD, DOROTHY ANN (nee Peacock)
June 2, 1932 – July 4, 2018

Our dearly beloved Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86. She is survived by her two daughters Janis (Patrick) and Patti (Juli) of Calgary, sisters-in-law, Annie Peacock of Rosser, Manitoba, Elaine Newfield of Winnipeg, Manitoba and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Vernon Newfield in 2010, father Elmer Peacock in 1971, mother Mildred Peacock (nee Dowker) in 1976, brother Murray Peacock in 2005, sister Joan Miller in 2017, her granddaughter Ashli in 1994 and two grand dogs, Bailey and Riley.

Mom was a third generation Peacock growing up on the family farm in Boissevain, Manitoba. With that came a full life of work and play. Grandma Peacock instilled the following words in our mom that “idle hands make idle minds”, words that stuck and inspired our mom throughout her life. While attending school in Boissevain our mom met her future husband, Vernon Elmer Newfield. Their courtship consisted of many trips up to Clear Lake, MB. for evenings full of dancing with family and friends at the local dance hall. They were married July 13, 1957.

Mom always took considerable pride when it came to playing bridge during her days in Winnipeg, and when it came to her turn to host the ladies the task of cleaning the chandelier until it glistened and most importantly, met mom’s approval, always fell upon her daughters. When mom wasn’t busy playing bridge, she could be found sitting down in front of the piano playing her favorite songs, taking up crafts such as knitting, paper tole, decoupage and painting, volunteering in the Grace Hospital gift shop, or spending countless hours with dad in the Westwood Collegiate gymnasium watching their daughters play basketball. Mom’s colourful knitted scarves have been enjoyed by many.

To Those I Love and Those Who Loved Me:
When I am gone, release me, let me go.... I have so many things to see and do, you mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears; be happy that we had so many years.
I gave to you my love, you can only guess…How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown but now it’s time I travelled alone.
So, grieve a while for me if grieve you must; then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on; so, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can’t see me or touch me, I’ll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear…. all my love around you soft and clear.

A special heartfelt thank you goes out to Lynn at Care to Share Senior Services for the friendship and many outings you shared with our mom since 2010. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Evans and the staff at Sage Hill Retirement Residence, and, most recently, to the kind and compassionate staff at the Dulcina Hospice who touched or spoke to our mom…thank you!
