Obituary for Marjorie Gretz

GRETZ, Marjorie
(Nov 10, 1935 to Jan 10, 2019)

Marjorie was a beloved wife of 60 years to Werner Gretz, caring mother to David (Rae) and Elizabeth (Shaun), and devoted grandmother to Koen and Dawson, and Erin, Shayne, and Evyn. She was born in Middlesbrough, England Nov 10, 1935, to George and Elsie Hill, predeceased by siblings Ann and Gordon, who she loved dearly. At the age of 21, a trained X-ray technician, she adventured to Canada, sailing by ship, eventually on her way to Australia. She met Werner at a dance in 1957 in Kitchener, Ontario, and they married Mar 1, 1958, raising two children, David and Elizabeth. Marjorie worked as an X-Ray technician for several years at the KW hospital in Kitchener and then turned her attention to farming and running a janitorial business with Werner near Clyde after moving to Alberta in 1976. She retired in Crossfield with Werner in 2002 to be near her children and grandchildren.

Marjorie was a warm and loving person, who enjoyed family, reading, machine knitting, and bowling. Her 60 years of marriage to Werner were filled with many wonderful memories and her family was always most important to her. She loved to babysit her five grandchildren who will fondly remember their grandma as loving and kind. Despite challenging health issues in her last years, Marjorie retained her good nature and sense of humor to the end, passing away peacefully under the steadfast care of staff at St Teresa’s Assisted Living in Calgary with her beloved Werner by her side.

A Private Family Memorial was held in her honor on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Marjorie, please visit www.choicememorial.com
