STEWART, Joan Doreen
1941 – 2019
Joan Doreen Stewart passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the age of 77 years after a 3 year battle with cancer.
Joan was born in Trochu, AB on December 21, 1941 to Wilbert and Annie Nesbitt. She grew up and went to school in Lacombe, then attended college in Red Deer while working at the Provincial Training School. She later moved to Calgary where she began working for Cockshutt Farm Equipment. While working there, she met her future husband Vic. They were married May 16, 1964 and had three children, Ron, Kathy and Vicki.
Joan worked in the payroll department at the Calgary Sun for many years, retiring in December 1999.
Vic and Joan enjoyed their retirement years by splitting time between their home in Calgary, RVing in Pahrump Nevada, and at their vacation lot in Delburne Ab. Joan enjoyed reading, playing golf, bingo, and spending time in the casinos. She especially enjoyed spending time with her 4 grandchildren.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Victor Stewart; son, Ron (Cindy); daughters, Kathy (Phil) and Vicki (Trent); four grandchildren, Zachary, Jessica, Nathan and Kayley as well as numerous other extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Wilbert and Annie Nesbitt; sisters, Bella Woodward and Margaret Nesbitt; brother, Dale Nesbitt and niece, Dianne Woodward.
The family wish to thank the Calgary EMS, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, & a special thank you to the nurses & doctors of unit 57 at FMC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to
Tom Baker Cancer Centre .
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
