Obituary for Danny Steven Nimetz

Danny Nimetz
January 13th, 1952 - Saturday, April 13th, 2019

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Dan Nimetz after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. With family by his side at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary, AB he laid down his sword on April 13, 2019, at the age of 67.

Dan was born January 13, 1952 in Benito, MB. His younger years were spent on the family farm in Vesna, SK, where he attended elementary school and went on to high school in Arran, SK.

Dan’s lifelong passion for mechanics began at an early age on the family farm, learning from his Dad. He worked various jobs in the Swan River area where he also met Audrey Ilienko. In 1974, they moved to The Pas, MB, where he began his career. Dan and Audrey were married on June 27th, 1975 and started their family. After completing his apprenticeship, journeyman heavy duty mechanic and welding certificates, he perfected his trade skills at the mill over 37 years, until his retirement in 2011.

As an avid outdoorsman, Dan lovingly taught his 3 children about the beauty and enjoyment of nature. Some of their favorite activities included hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He also spent countless hours cheering at his sons' hockey games which he carried forward to his 3 grandsons, attending his last minor hockey game in February of this year.

Dan knew the value of a hard day’s work and had a keen eye for detail. He always had the cleanest vehicles in town and could spend a whole day making them that way. Dan was easy to talk to and was always willing to help someone out. His patience while teaching his kids and grandkids was never-ending, always encouraging them until they “got it.”

Dan is survived by his former wife, Audrey, who lovingly cared for him until his last day; his daughter, Tanya (Cory) grandchildren Brady, Grayson, Walker and Jorja Beaton of Calgary, AB; son Trevor (Reanne) grandchildren Courtney, Emily, Melody Nimetz, step-grand daughter Elise of Winnipeg, MB; and youngest son Terry of Red Deer, AB. He is also survived by his brothers, Eugene (Patti) and family of Kelowna, BC; Orest (Debbie) and family of Kenville, MB, Ron (Carol) and family of Madge Lake, SK, Aunt Helen Hrycenko, formerly of Arran, SK and his beloved feline companion, Lexie.

A Celebration of Life for Dan will be held in Swan River, MB, at a later date. Details to follow.
